Here are some answers to some common questions about Big Dance
Big Dance is a biennial the celebratory festival taking place in 2010 and 2012 with development programmes in between. This celebration of dance and dancing for everyone will take place from 3-11 July 2010.

The programme will be delivered by the Greater London Authority in partnership with Arts Council England, London. Additional support for the programme is provided by London Councils, Museums, Libraries and Archives, London, NHS London and Sport England.
Big Dance 2010 will be an opportunity for everyone to experience the diversity of dance activities that thrive in the capital. Londoners and visitors to the capital will be able to experience an unparalleled citywide, creative celebration of dance.
Big Dance is working in partnership with 5 hub organisations that will lead and co-ordinate activity in their London boroughs. These organisations are:

Siobhan Davies Dance (South)
Croydon, Kingston-upon-Thames, Lambeth, Merton, Southwark, Sutton and Wandsworth.
English National Ballet (West)
Brent, Ealing, Hammersmith & Fulham, Harrow, Hillingdon, Hounslow, Kensington & Chelsea, Richmond-upon-Thames and Westminster
Big Dance is working in partnership with Shape London to ensure that the programme is accessible for all.
- Celebrate the diversity of London by showcasing the Capital’s world-class dance offer.
- Inspire young people and diverse communities to participate in the life and culture of London and in the build up and delivery of the Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2012
- Foster innovation and creativity
- Promote the Olympic and Paralympic ideals celebrating mind, body and spirit, and encourage a joined-up approach across sport, physical activity, culture and education
- Leave a lasting positive legacy of the Games for future generations
Everyone and every dance style is welcome to participate in Big Dance 2010. Information for independent artists, choreographers, dance teachers, student and volunteers who would like to be involved in Big Dance activities can all be found on the website.
Big Dance week 2010 will run from 3-11 July and will offer lots of events, classes and performances for you to participate in.
The programme is still in development, so we can’t say exactly what is planned, but you can look forward to hundreds of innovative dance events across the Capital and outside of London in:
- parks
- bridges
- schools
- sports & health clubs
- cinemas
- leisure & fitness centres
- nightclubs & shops
There are many opportunities for the public to have a go as dance studios, theatres, sports facilities, community centres, health clubs and gyms open their doors for people to try some of the best classes and performances on offer.

Big Dance 2010 has now offered 50 grants of £1,000 to support great ideas for projects that are dance related, based in London and take place during Big Dance week (3-11 July 2010). A further grant programme will be launched for Big Dance 2012 so keep registered and in touch with your Big Dance Hub:

You should contact the hub organisation for your borough. They will be able to talk to you about performing in the programme. You should also register your interest in putting on an event by going to the Big Dance website.
All schools at nursery, primary and secondary levels can be part of the Big Dance Schools Pledge. There are two strands to the Schools pledge.
- Pledge to 20 minutes of dance a day during Big Dance week.
- Learn a short dance piece and take part in a record-breaking attempt at 1pm on 9 July 2010 – when all schools worldwide are being invited to perform the dance at the same time.
